Welcome to the Annual Organizational Development Forum… where together with you, we will revolutionize the way you and your organization plan for growth and sustainability. The Forum will be held from Tuesday, March 29, 2011 to Friday, April 1, 2011 at the Hilton Hotel, Nairobi and is expected to bring together Founders, Directors, Consultants, and Senior Managers of the Non-Profit Sector from English and French speaking Africa.

ACV Kenya sets up the Education Fund for Children

Two girls who had absolutely no hope of going to secondary school will have their story re-written when ACV-Kenya presents them with scholarships this month. These two girls will be the first to benefit from an Education Fund that ACV-Kenya officially launched on 22 December 2010 during a gala dinner held at Hilton Hotel Nairobi to commemorate our first anniversary.

The generous contribution that was made by ACVerians during the gala dinner is the seed money that made the establishment of the Fund possible. Initially, this Fund will be used to support girls from poor families in Nyanza and Western provinces to attend secondary school. Eventually, boys too will be supported.

One might say that two girls is a small triumph, a drop in the ocean even, considering the number of children whose dreams of staying in school have been quashed by lack of fees, disease and early pregnancies and marriage.

We have a different take on things. We look at the bigger picture. According to UNESCO and the EFA Global Monitoring Report team, women who have secondary education are more likely to space out pregnancies and seek health care and support, hence reducing the rate of maternal mortality. They also tend to have fewer children. The improved care and support that women with secondary education give their children ensures that these children stay alive and healthy, and remain in school longer.

This year, our two female scholars embark on a journey that could guarantee a better quality of life for them and their families.
